AUCKLAND V. WANGANUI. Wanganui, August 24. The match Auckland v. Wanganui was played to-day. There was a large attendance. On the visitors’ performances, it was generally considered that the local reps, would have no chance, but the result proved otherwise. The game was a clinker throughout, the play being fast and brilliant. The first spell ended without a score, and the second bid fair to do the same, but in the last two minutes, amidst intense excitement, Absolum took the ball from Braund and dashed over on the very corner of the goal-line. Murray did not increase the score. On play resuming, the Wauganui boys rushed the ball into their opponents’ twenty-fives, where a freekick was awarded them. Tilly took a shot at goal, but the ball passed just outside the two posts as the whistle sounded time, thus leaving the northerners victorious by 3 points to nil.
