Mi. Newton King’s Weekly Report. New Plymouth. August 19. Cattle—At Stratford, on Tuesday, the yards were well filled, and there waa a good attendance. Young cattle were few in number and were all well competed for, prices being decidedly firmer. A great many cattle oame forward. Springing heifers nearly all ■old well, except one pen which was offered towards the close of the sale, bidding for which was not consistent with their quality Good springing cows near calving also sold well, but late calvers and big stores were almost unsaleable. I quote—Calves, 15* to 20s 6d; yearlings, 22s to 265; 18 to 20months heifers, 29s to 34a 6d ; springers, 30s Os 6d to £3 15s; store cows. 28s to £3 ; springers, £2 15s to £5 7s 6d, At Waitara, on Wednesday, Mr J. Lindsay clearing sale was very poorly attended (owing probably to the countr attraction of the Interprovincial Football Match), very few buyers being present, and nothing was sold at the hammer, but I placed two lines of ten each privately at satisfactory prices. At Waiwakaiho, on Thursday, there was a fair muster, and as at Stratford nearly all dairy and with the exception of choice quality. Bidding for this class was very flat, and the greater part waa passed in. Calves and yearlings sold at improved priee. I quote the former at 7s to 19s ; yearlings, 21s to 265; 12 to 18-months mixed, 28a 6d ; 2£-year steers, £3 5a to £3 10s ; store cows ; 15s to 31b ; springing, £3 to £3 15s. Mum Nolan, Tonks and Co.’s Stock Report. Haweba, August 20. At Opanake, on 17th inst., considerably mors stock than advertised came forward, and bidding throughout was spirited, moat lines changing hands before leaving the yards. At Manaia, on 19th inst, we had a good entry of both cattle and sheep, but the sale dragged considerably, yet we succeeded in quitting several pens. We quote—At Opunake—Store cows, 30s to 35s ; weaners, 11s to 14s ; fat cows, £2 18s to £3 s|! 2-year steers, 38s to 41s ; springing heifers. £3 10a to £4 ; cows at profit, £4 5s to £4 10s. At Manaia—lß-month heifers, 21s to 32s ; 18-month steers, 32s to 34s fid ; weaners, l£s; springers, £3 10s to £3 12s ; milkers, £3 17* 6d to £4 10s; store cows, 345. Sheep —Fat wethers, 12s. Btfmont Farmers’ Union (Limited) Report. Haweba, August 20. At Stratford, on the 13th, there was a good enquiry for young stock, springing cows and heifers, whilst other lines were neglected. We held our usual fortnightly sale at the Glover Road yards on Wednesday, 18th, The attendance was large but bidding slow, except for a few pens of well-bred young stock. For fat cattle there are no outside buyers, and we cannot see how prices can even keek to the present low rates. We quote—At Stratford—Dairy cows, £3 5s to £4 17s fid ; dairy heifers, £3 10s to £4 ; yearlings (mixed), £1 to £1 6s ; weaners, 11s to 17s fid. At Hawera—Fat bullocks, £4 5s to £4 12s ; fat cows, £3 to £3 7s fid ; 2-year steers, £2 5s to £2 9s; yearlings, 18s to 24s ■, springers, £2 5s to £4. Messrs F. R. Jackson and Go’s Stock Report. Wanganui, August 20. The entry for St. Hill Street sale was on the small side. The bidding was brisk, and stock maintained their value. Cattle—Fat cows, £3 ; milch cows, £3 2s to £4 10s; store cows, 30s ; old cows, 17s fid to 20s. Sheep—Fat wethers. 12s Id ; fat ewes, 7s to 7* 4d ; hoggets. 8s 3d ; store wethers, 8s 7d ; store ewes, fia to fis fid. Pigs—Baconers, 21s to 27s ; porkers, 18s to 19s fid.
