Profit on Dairy Cows.
A profit of £IOOO a year on 55 cows is the kind of return which makes the dairy farmer anxious to know how it is done. This was shown at a meeting of u Fanners' Institute in Canada recently, when. Mr C. D. Telsar read a •report of the returns from his Holstein for the year. One cow gave 150 gallons cf milk, which at 5 cents per quart made SOOdols. Ten cows aver-jig-.1 11,G001b., 40 cows averaged 90001 b., and 55 cows averaged 80001 b. From Lis description of the methods of cere and the buildings employed to attain these results, it was evident that consideration for the comfort and well-being of the animal is the primary object of attention at this place at least. The diet used consists of bran Gib ; peas, 21b ; corn, ground on the cob, oil;: ensilage, 501 b ; clover, 81b ; which, with other ingredients, brings the cost p; r cow per day to 14 cents. Taking the average yield of the whole 55 cowt'., ta.;h cow naie a net profit of 109 d 'ls, after allowing for cost of keep-. - ,: 14 cents per day, or a total ior the whole herd of 5995d015.
