Messrs Nolan, Tonlis and Co. s Stock Report. Haweua, August, G. On Slot uit, we leased by n notion Mr G. Hayward’s 7J acres Irvuting Princess street and Main South Road to Mr D. Leslie, at a rental of £BO per annum. On tbe 2nd mat, we held a dairy sale on account of Mrs Roskruge, Hastings Road. The majority of the cows and heifers were late calvers and in backward condition, consequently prices ruled low. Cows forward in calf, £5 5s to £6 10s; backward springers, £3 to £4 10s ; heifers, £2 10s to £3 ; yearling steers, 26s 6d ; weaners, 10s. At Kakaramea, on sth inst, we had a fair entry, and Mr Dunn’s being sold without reserve caused good competition. We quote :—Weaners, 18s to 15s; yearling steers, 18s to 82s ; 2-year steers, £2 ; 3-year steers, £8 9s ; springing heifers, £3 5s to £3 12s 6d ; cows and calves* £2 2s 6d ; store cows, 28s; dairy cows, £2 15s to £4 ss. At Stratford, on Friday last, in addition to the usual stock sale, we sold two dairy herds, but as most of tbe cows were very backward and in low condition competition was not very keen. Our monthly horse fair was held on Saturday, when a full market of horses came forward, the quality of which was much better than we have offered for a long time There was a good attendance of buyers and bidding was brisk throughout the sale, resulting in over fifty horses being sold at tbe hammer. At Hawera yesterday, although our yards were well filled with both cattle and sheep of good quality, the bidding was dull, no doubt through buyers being kept from the sale by tbe wet weather. We quote—at Stratford—Dairy Cows, £4 to £6 5s ; dairy heifers, £3 2s 6d to £5 5s ; store cows, £1 9s to £2; 18-months to 2-year steers, £1 14s to £2 3s ; 12 to 18-months mixed, £1 5s to £llls ; weaners, 12s to 2is. Sheep—ewes in lamb, 6s. Horse fair—Draught horses, £l6 to £2l 10s; light harness horses, £8 to £l4 ; hacks, £3 to £8 15s. Hawera—Fat and forward bullocks £3 7s 6d to £4 2s 6cL; 12 to 18-months ateers, £1 9s to £1 12s; weaners, 17s to £1; springers, £8 17s 6d to £5 12s 6d; empty cows, £1 8s to £2 ; fat sheep (very prime), 14s 6d. Messrs Hunter and Nolan’s Report. Auckland, August 5. Horses—Hardly as many as usual were entered on Friday, and few of good stamp were brought forward. Heavy draughts ranged from £l2 15s to £lB 10s ; medium draughts, £8 5s to £l4 10s ; light harness, £3 to £9 15s ; hacks, £2 6s to £8 10s. Cattle were brought forward in sufficient numbers for requirements. At Newmarket on Tuesday there was a good muster, and at Papakura on Wednesday the yards were well filled. Ox baef sold from 16s to 18s 1001 b; cow, 15s to 16s. Steers ranged from £4 17s 6d to £7'lss; cows, £3 7s 6d to £5 5s ; dairy cows, £3 to £7 5s ; dry cows, £1 10s to £2 10s ; calves, 18s to 22s 6d; yearlings, £1 5s to £1 10s; 2 to 8-year steers, £2 to £3 ss. Mr Newton King’s Weekly Report. New Plymouth, August 5. Cattle.—At Stratford, on Tuesday, the yards were fairly filled, a great many dairy cattle coming forward. All store cattle were dull of sale, and comparatively few lines changed hands. Dairy cows were all well competed for, and nearly the, whole of them sold at satisfactory prices. Calves made 18s ; yearlings, 19s ; 18month steers, 355; 18-month heifers, 27s 6d ; 3-year do, 89s to 45s ; springing heifers, £3 10s; springing cows, £3 to £6 2s 6d. It rained incessantly at Mr Montgomerie’s sale on £he Monmouth Road on Wednesday. The attendance was limited. The cows, which were undoubtedly a fine lot, were passed in, as the vendor considered the prices offered too low. There were a nice lot of springing hei f ers, which were well competed for, and anything near Calving sold readily. Cows made from £4 to £6 15s ; heifers, £3 7s 6d to £4 8s ; express horse, £ll. At Tataramaika, on Wednesday, I held a clearing sale of Mr Needham’s dairy stock, when, in spite of the weather, there was a fair attendance, and good prices were realised. The cows were a nice lot on the whole, and were well competed for. Cows in milk made £4 5s to £5 ; springers, £4 2s 6d to £6 2s 6d ; late calvers, £3 2s 6d to £4 12s 3d ; springing heifers, £3 6s. Sun (fries and furniture made . good prices. At Waiwakaiho, on Thursday, there was a small muster, limited attendance, and a very dull sale. Calves made 11s to 12s 9d ; yearlings, 16s to 17s; springing heifers, £3 '4s; fat cows, £3; fat wethers, 12s.
