CANADIAN GOLD DISCOVERY.
Ottawa, July 24. The miners who returned from the scene of the rich gold discoveries in British Columbia state that the gold belt extends three hundred miles along the river Qukon and its tributaries. The couutry is fairly reeking with gold. A remarkable rush is taking place to Klondike, from Colorado, California, and Montane. Experienced men urged that mining operations be delayed until spring. Many of the Canadians are clamouring against Sir W. Laurier only allowing Britishers to proceed on gold discoveries. TURKEY AND GREECE. Constantinople, July 24. The Ambassadors have notified their respective Governments that a demonstration of force is necessary to secure the acceptance by Turkey of the terms of peace decided by the Powers. Immediately this action was taken the Sultan issued an irade accepting the strategic frontier of Thessaly and abandoning his claim to the whole of Thessaly. A SHIP FOUNDERED. Sydney, July 24. Eastern news contains the information that the steamer Saihong Ann, with a large number of European, Chinese, and Malayan passengers, foundered during a squall in the Straits of Malacca, and sank in three minutes. One hundred of those on board, including Allan, the chief engineer, and several other Europeans, were drowned. Many influential Malacca and Singapore families lost relatives. Captain Rawlingson and secord engineer Gomez were rescned on a floating buoy.
