Land Board.

The Land Board met on Monday. Present: —The Commissioner (Mr Strauchon), Messrs Kelly, Stock, and Heslop. ACQUIRING FREEHOLD. The following applied for the freehold :—A. Binnie, Sections 12 and 13 Block 4, Cape ;W. E. Hollard, Section 11, Block 7, Kaupokonui; E. R. A. Haworth, Section 9, Block 4, Huiroa ; T. Corkill, Section 2, Block 12, Huiroa.—Agreed to. FORFEITED. The Inspector reported that H. J. Jones and family had left Section 57, Wbangamomona, 1.F.5., and removed their furniture with them : also that the following selectors had been absent from their holdings since January last: —J. H. Jones, Section 108 ; F. J. Brown, Section 101; W. Bowers Section 102; R. Hill, Section 80; M. Holden, Section 16 : W. G. Barrett, Section 18 ; F. G. Baker, Section 109: J. L. Birdwietle, Section 87; G. Ward, Section 66; J. W. Ward, Section 4.—The Board decided to declare the interest of these persons forfeited. ranger's inspection. The Ranger reported on inspection of 92 sections, comprising an area of 19,844 acres. The requirements of the Act are 1086 acres, cultivated and additional improvements made are 7074 acres cultivated, valued at £2410 16s. More than half (51) of the sections have been held only two years. Tweoty seven are resident and fifty non-resident, while two are slightly in default. The report was approved of as satisfactory; those in default to be reminded of the conditions. INTESESTING TO LOCAL BODIES. Pursuant to notice, Mr Stock moved —" That with regard to thirds payable to local bodies, it is inadvisable, in the opinion of the Board, that the said bodies should hold large sums of money to credit without use being made of the money for the immediate benefit of the settlers ; and, further, that local bodies be asked to furnish half-yearly statements of work done out of thirds paid over by Land Board, showing locality, extent and nature of said works, and io case of sums insufficient for immediate expenditure that they be shown as held over for future expenditure."—The motion was carried.—News.
