A Vessel Ashore.

Blenheim, February 12. The Signalman at Wairau Bar wires that the Neptune is ashore on the main beach in a bad position. Wellington, February 13, The steamer came to grief to-day at the bar of the river leading to Blenheim. The steamer attempted to cross at mid-day and struck, and was washed down the beach for a distance of half a mile, bumping heavily alt all the way. Four passengers gol ashore by means of a line. There was a heavy sea, and it is expected the vessel will go to pieces. She carried a full cargo.. No insurance on the steamer, which is owned by a syndicate.

The Neptune was engaged for many years running to Blenheim. She was built at Auckland in 1883. Her tonnage is 64 tons. Until a week ago Captain Eckford one of the owners, commanded her, but he is now in Welling superintending the completion of a new steamer.
