Waimate Road Board.

The ordinary monthly meeting was held on Wednesday, there being present : Messrs McCarthy (chair), Biennerhassett, Budge, Palmer, and Wilkie. SKEET ROAD. Mr Clement waited on the Board with a petition by Messrs Falkner, Gibson, Dawson, and Slater, asking that the .cutting at Dunn’s creek be improved.—Granted £5 or £6 out of rates account. Mr Cullen presented a petition from Messrs Hooper and Schinkel Bros, asking that something be done on the Skeet Road between the Oeo River and Mr Cullen’s property.— Available rates to be spent. ELTHAM ROAD. —PUNEHU STREAM. The Chairman of the Awatuna School Committee asked that a footbridge be erected over the Punehu stream.—No funds available. TENDERS. 115. Palmer Road—Powell, £37 10s ; Butler, £32 19s ; Kanyon, £23 (accepted); Mackio and Co, £3l ; Briggs, £B3. 116. Upper Rowan Road.—Baxter and Bennie, £3 for gravel and £4 10s for stone (accepted for stone). 117. Mangawhero Road. —Mcßae and Day, £4 2s 6d (accepted). 118. Makaka township.—Shearin, £SO 9s ; Morris, £26 15s (accepted). 119. Skeet Road.—Mudford Bros, Nos. 1, 8 and 5, £4 18s per chain ; Nos. 2 and 4, £4 18s (accepted). 120. The Treasury approve the proposed loan of £450 for Upper Manaia Road, £BOO for Watino Road South, £IOO (additional) for Kiri Road, HONIROAD. Resolved—That available funds be expended, as requested by Mr McKeown. UPPER MANAIA ROAD. The contractor applied to be allowed to put ou inches of crushed metal in place of 7 inches hand broken. The foreman said that granting the request would mean a gift of £BO to the contractor. Personally he was opposed to the use of crushed metal, and wished it placed on record that he did not favor the making of any road with erased metal.

Opinion amongst members of the board was about evenly divided in favor of and against crushed metal. Resolved to accept crushed metal provided that contractor will put on an extra inch. OPUNAKE-STRATFORD ROAD. L, W. Johns wrote stating that nobody had been authorised to write to the board on his behalf a mouth ago. NOPERA ROAD. Available moneys to be expended by tender at once. TENDER FORMS. Resolved that 100 tender forms be obtained. UNSATISFACTORY CONTRACT. Tiie foreman reported that the breaking of stones on one of the contracts had not been done to his satisfaction, but that the contractor considered the work finished. Left to foreman to finish the work, and pay for same out of moneys still in hand. A sample of the stone taken off the road was shown to the members. The stones varied from siu to Sin, and the foreman said it was useless expecting a good road with metal of those sizes underneath. RAMA ROAD. Fresh tenders to be called. LOWER GLENN ROAD. J* J. Campbell wrote stating that the'sum of £BS, balance due to the road, should be expended at once. Agreed to call for tenders. UPPER AUROA ROAD. Mr O’Sullivan wrote asking that the available balance be expended. Agreed that tenders be called. TITAHI STREET, PIHAMA. D. Barlow wrote asking that the available balance be expended on this street. The foreman said that Mr Barlow was agreeable to the money being spent on Patiki road, which was agreed to. NOTICE OP MOTION. The Chairman gave notice to move at next meeting to adjust the d.p. accounts in accordance with the clerk’s suggestion in place of the adopted scheme. Mr C. Budge approved of this course. SUGGESTED ALLOWANCES. An opinion obtained from Mr Bennett pointed out that no travelling allowances to members can be allowed nor could any member accept any description of work for profit under the Board. —Star.
