(Our Own Correspondent.)

The election is now over and for three years peace aud quietness will mark politics. The prohibition vote here was disappointing. The school concert was quite a treat aud \ery great praise is due to Miss Mclntyre, who was assisted by Miss Weyergang, for the manuer in which they were trained to sing and recite. The following programme was given : —Pianofore duet, Miss' Weyergang and Mise Iva Parkes; chorus by school children; recitation school boys ; violin solo, Miss Rawstron (encored); pianoforte solo, Mr Boston (encored); recitation, "Warriors of the Seas," Miss Wallace; chorus, school children; piano solo, Miss Alice Collins (encored); the trial scene from the " Merchant of Venice " was given in good style by the scholars, Miss Iva Parkes being specially noticeable in the part of Judge ; piano solo, Mr Boston; chorus, •' Trip, trip, my pony " ; school boys ; recitation, "Boy's Rights," school boys, this item was very amusing; chorus, " Home Sweet Home " school children.

Mr G. Watson, Chairman of School Committee, made a few complimentary remarks regarding the progress the shool had made since Miss Mclntyre had assumed charge. The last flattering report and examination results reflected great credit on her abilities as a teacher. The school was becoming more popular every day and the attendance had so increased that during the- past three months they had become entitled to and had obtained the services of an assistant teacher—Miss Wallace. He hoped the parents would back up the teachers and keep their children as regular as possible in their attendance.

The proceeds of the entertainment will go towards procuring prizes for the children. £3 10s 6d was taken at the door.
