The Opunake Times. TUESDAY, DECEMBER 22, 1896. CHRISTMAS 1896.

The festive season of Christmas has como round once more, and brings with it joys and pleasant recollections of bright and happy Christmas seasons of years past. The juveniles look eagerly forward to it as a time of feasting and jollification, whilst their seniors say " Christmas is not what it used to be-" What made it a time of expectancy to them iu their younger days has no longer any charm for them, and consequently they think the colors which are sombre to them are also sombre to every one else. It is a failing of humau nature that each individual thinks his view of life is the only oue that can present itself to every one else, and if he i£ sad, he cannot see any reason for any one else being glad. Life is not, however, composed of one monotonous view, but is rather like the kaleidescope—ever changing, ever new- -so long as we take the trouble to look through it and bestir ourselves to produce changes pleasing to our fancy. If we take the gloomy view it is like standing the kaliodescope on a shelf and always looking at the case, in which we can discern no change. In this district Christmas should be bright and happy, as work has been plentiful and our permanent settlers have also beeu doing well, so that there should be a fair amount of surplus money available for luxuries and pleasures. Hoping that every one will thoroughly enjoy themselves, we wish one and all A Merry Christmas AND Happy New Year.
