MR McGUIRE’S VOTE.

(to the editor.) Sib, — In my letter which appeared in Times of December Ist, you appended a footnote “ That Mr McGuire voted against the Government Loans to Local Bodies Act Amendment 1896.” I cannot find a trace of any such vote. Will you state the number and page of Hansard recording Mr McGuire’s vote against the Bill?—I am, Ac,, A. H, Moore, [We have much pleasure in complying with Mr Moore’s request. In No. 30, at page 11, on the motion that the Bill be committed, Mr McGuire’s name is given as voting with the Noes, in order to stop the progress of the Bill. Again, at page 29, in the same number of Hansard, when Mr Allen moved to recommit the Bill to insert a clause in the Bill to prevent the Government collaring the Local Bodies sinking funds, Mr McGuire’s vote is recorded in favor of inserting the clause, whilst Mr E. M, Smith’s vote was cast against the recommittal, in order to allow the Government to keep on collaring them. We can assure Mr Moore that we have too much respect for his eagle eye to make statements which we are not in a position to prove.— Ed. O.T.]
