PUNGAREHU.

(Oue Own Correspondent.) The electioneering campaign may now be considered fairly started, for Mr C. E. Bellringer, one of the candidates for Parliamentary honors, gave an address in the Pungarehu School on Monday evening last, the 12th inst. The meeting was fairly well attended, something like thirty electors being present, a number of whom were ladies. Mr Maoßeynolds was voted to the chair, and in a neat little speech introduced Mr Bellringer. The address was a repetition of the one given in New Plymouth, and was attentively listened to by all present. No questions were asked. At the conclusion of the address Mr B. B. E. Layard proposed a hearty vote of thanks to the candidate for his well-given address, which was seconded in a very humorous speech by Mrs Dougherty. The usual vote of thanks to the chairmam terminated the meeting. Some of your readers will no doubt be pleased to know that two of the Maoris who evaded payment of toll at the Heimama tollgate in November last have at last been sent to gaol for their misdeeds, Constable Hickman, of Pungarehu, having on Tharsday last arrested Waiwera and Kamo, whom he escorted to New Plymouth, where they will be entertained by Mr Rickerby for the next two months. The children's anniversary services in connection with the Wesleyan Church came off on Sunday last, and was a great success. The Bev. J. H. White preached both in the afternoon and evening, and the schoolhouae was filled to the very doors. The Sunday School children sang several hymns during the service, the rendering of which gives great credit to the persons who undertook to train them for this special occasion.
