THE OPUNAKE POUND.

(to the editob.)

Sib, —I am very glad indeed to endorse Mr McGregor's statements at the Town Board meeting on Monday last, when he Bays that it was a good job for me that the pound was there. I honestly admit that I was a little surprised at that truthful remark from him. I do believe bad it not been for the protection aflorded me by the o;:unake pound, I would have had some time ago to relinquish my right of a good part of my farm to Mr McGregor and others of a like disposition. Mr McGregor very honestly admits that he paid aweetly for bis persistence in pasturing his bi ggy horse on my property before giving it up. As to'the money I have made out of the pound, I tell Mr McGregor—and all others whose horses I found it necessary to put in the pound—that I don't thank them for their money. I would much sooner be without it and be allowed to use my farm for my own benefit in peace and quietness. I have on different occasions gone to the paddock for my cows of an evening to find the gate bars smashed, and fifteen Opunake horses grazing therein; k and at other times when the gate withstood their attack I had to drive my cows through that mob of horses, and doing so on a bush road with ditches and logs on either side, any one may understand if it is an agreeable job. 1 challenge Mr McGregor or any one to say that ever I made illegal demand on any one, but not so with their pour Ikeeper when he got me in his grasp.—l am, &c, C. MoHabdy.
