|S( & K jrau» TO STAND THIS SEASON In the Opunake District, The Thoroughbred Trotting Stallion, Golden King. Golden King is by Blue Gown—dam Golden Grape mare. Blue Gown is by Remedy out of an Arab mare imported by the late Mr E. Mitchell. Blue Gown on April 7th, 1885, at the Canterbury Show Grounds, won the 2 miles, and ran 2nd to Victor in 3 miles. On May 12tb 1888, at Show Grounds won the 8 miles. On June 21st at Show grounds won the 2 miles, and July 18th, same year at Lancaster Park, won both the 8 miles and 2 miles. On August 12th, 1892, at the Canterbury Trotting Club’s Meeting, won the Sires Cup and Stakes (2 miles in harness), and repeated the performance in 1894. Blue Gown’s stock in 1890 took Ist, 2nd and 3rd, prizes at the A. and P. Association’s Show, and Ist and special at Leeston. In 1871,15 t prize in carriage class at Leeston ; Ist and 2nd in carriage class at A. and P. Show, besides numerous other prizes. Blue Gown took Ist prize at Leeston, and Ist at Christchurch in hackney and trotting class. Further particulars in future issue, or from C. HIS sire, APREMONT (brother to the great French horse Ohamant), was bred in France in 1878, being by Mortemer, dam Araucaria (dam of Rayon d’Oor), by Ambros —Pocahontas (dam of Stockwell, &c.), by Glencoe ; Mortemer by Conquienge (son of FitzGladiator) —Comtesse, by Baron of Nuncio; Ambros, by Touchstone —Annette, by Priam. Apremont was imported into Canterbury in 1882 by Mr G. G. Stead. FANTASTIC’S dam, FANTASY, is by Traducer,' out of Miss Flat, who was by the imported Peter Flat, out of the i mported dam Mountain Nymph, who again was by Sir Tattoo Sykes’ Giselle, by Stockport. Miss Flat is the dam of a numerous family, the greatest of whom was the renowned Welcome Jack, one of the greatest racehorses ever bred in New Zealand. Terms: £2 10s. Groomage fee, 2s 6d. (Rising 9 years; bay with black points ; stands 17 hands ; bred by W. MaoFarlane, Esq.) MELROSE is by TAIERI TOM (240 N.Z. Draught Horse Stud Book), out of FANNY FERN (393 N.Z. Draught Horse Stud Book). Taieri Tom was bred by the late Mr James Shand, Taieri, Otago, got by Sir Colin (imp). His dam Nancy was by Glasgow Geordie (imp); second dam Nancy was imported by Mr Valpy. Fanny Fern is by the late Mr J, Wall’s Pride of Scotland (602 Scotch Stud Book and 31 N.Z. Draught Horse Stud Book); dam Fanny (309 N.Z. Draught Horse Stud Book), by Prince Charlie (026 Scotch Stud Book and 4 N.Z. Draught Horse Stud Book). Fanny Fern was shown at Eangiora in 1891, beating all comers. In 1892 was first at Eangiora, and first and champion at Christchurch. FANNY, dam of Fanny Fern, 1891, took first and champion for the best brood mare and two of her progeny, Fanny Fern and Cold Stream being the two shown with her. Cold Stream, own brother to Fanny Fern, took first and champion at Eangiora, and first and champion at Christchurch. tSHt will be seen by the above pedigree that MELROSE is a descendant of stock second to none in New Zealand. Glen is a fine upstanding horse, possessed of immense bone and muscle, and is by Gleugyle, whoso fame in the show ring is too well known to need remark, out of an imported mare. Glen is perfectly staunch, and quiet in harness. Grass free for one month, after which a charge of Is fid per week will be made. Terms : £1 ss, A. CROSS, Owner.
