In his report on the trade of Denmark in 1895, Captain Boyle states that the exports of batter amounted to 180,000,0001 b. This quantity was about the same as that of 1894 ; but as 8,000,0001 b less were imported, the home production must have increased. The production of bacon also increased greatly, notwithstanding the extremely low prices current. It is estimated that about 950,000 pigs were killed for bacon, or 85 per cent, more than in the proceeding year. The exports of pork and bacon amounted to 182,000,0001 b. The number of bacon factories is now 83, of which 12 are private and 18 co-operative. Captain Boyle remarks that all but one of the factories started in 1895 are private, thus showing that co-operative enterprise in this direction has received a check. All last winter Mr Geo. A.
