Egmont Farmers' Union (Limited) Report.
Hawera, September 10
Our monthly sale at Okaiawa was held on Thursday, the 3rd iust. The entry of cattle was large, and bidding for 2to 2£-year steers brisk. Other lines were not in such request, though we managed to do a fair amount of business. We quote : —Fat cows, £4 to £4 6s 6d; 2to steers, £8 to £3 18s 6d; 18-months to 2-year steers, 45s to 595; yearlings, 26s to 85s ; calves, 10s to 16s. We had a very successful sale of dairy stock, &c, on Mr J. Bentley's farm. Skeet Road, Kapuni, on Monday, the 7th inst. The cows sold well, being a good line, and all the sundries realised their full value. We quote:— Dairy cows, £4 15s to £9 10s ; dairy heifers, £3 15s to £5 12s 6d; 18months heifers, 85s to 40s ; yearlings, 20s to 22s 6d ; harness horses, £l4 to £l7 10s.
There was a great abundance of cattle in the Manaia yards, on Wednesday, the 9th inst., it being the largest entry that we have had there for some time. The attendance was small, and bidding dull, so that not a great deal of business was transacted. We quote:—Fat bullocks (light weights), £5 5s to £5 15 6d; fat and forward cows, £3 8s to £8 15s ; dairy cows and heifers, £3 to £4 5s ; calves, 15s to 20s.
Messrs F. R. Jackson and Co.'s Stock Report.
Wanganui, September 8.
We had a fair muster of both cattle and sheep at Waverley on Monday. At St Hill Street yeste'rday the entry cousisted mostly of cattle, only a few small lines of sheep coming forward. Only a few pigs came forward and these found purchasers at an increase of late rates. We quote:— Cattle —At Waverley—Milkers, 50s to £8 ; steers, 58s to 65s ; heifers, 44s 6d to 47s ; yearlings. 88s 6d to 40s ; fat cows, £3 5s to £4 , light fat bullocks, £5 12s 6d; 3-year steers, £4 ss.

Mr Newton King's Weekly Report.
New Plymouth, August 10.
On Friday last, at Oakura, I held a clearing sale on account of Mr Hugh Mills. There was a large attendance and keen competition throughout, cows realising good prices and horses made satisfactory rates. On Tuesday, at Cardiff, 1 held a clearing sale of Mr Richard Dingle's dairy stock. The cows were a good lot and bidding was fairly brisk, but in many cases buyers' values for cows were not in accord with those of the vendor, and a good many of these were passed in. Heifers, however, were all eagerly competed for, and made much higher prices than those ruling of late. On Wednesday, at Stratford, I had a very successful sale on behalf of Mr D. McCracken, every lot being sold without reserve, stimulated bidding and satisfactory prices were realised. At Omata, on Thursday, the sale of Mrs Putt's old-established herd of dairy cows and other dairy stock attracted an unusually large crowd, buyers being present from all parts of the district. Competition was very keen throughout, and considering the low condition of the cattle, excellent prices were realised. Prices for the various sales ranged as follows :
Mr Mills' dairy—Springers, £4 10s to £8; cows in milk, £4 to £6 ; late calvers, 40s to £4 15s; draught horses, £ll 15s to £24 10s ; light draught do., £2O 10s.
Mr Dingle's cows-r Springers, £5 to £7 2s 6d ; springers in milk, £4 5s to £6 ; springing heifers, £8 15s to £5 ss.
Mr McCracken's stock—Springers, £5 to £7 15s ; cows in milk, £3 10s to £6 10s ; late calvers, £3 10s to £4 10s.
Mrs Putt's dairy—Springers, £5 5s to £7 15s ; cows in milk, £3 5s to £6 ss; heifers in calf, 47s to 535; springers, £3 103 to £4. At my usual monthly sale at Stony River, on Wednesday, there was a good muster and fair attendance. Bidding for young stock, however, was not particularly brisk, and prices were not high. Calves made 15s to 22s ; good yearlings, 81s ; 15-month mixed, 32s 6d to 34s ; 2-year steers, 49s ; fresh condition cows, £3 10s ; empty do., 48s. At the same sale prices for Mr A. Bell's surplus were as follows : Springing cows, £4 Is ; heifers, £3 6s to £4 7s 6d. Mr Hughson's dairy cows were in rather low condition and competition was not keen, though everything was sold. Springers made £4 2s 6d to £5 ; late calvers, 55s to £4 10s.
Land—During the week I quitted Mr Edwards' 212 acre farm at Midhurst to Mr Griffith Jones at a satisfactory figure.
Messrs Hunter and Nolan's Report Auckland, September 9. Cattle—A good many have been brought forward, and a steady demand has existed at previous week's rates. At Newmarket, on Tuesday, the yards were fairly filled, and competition was steady throughout the sale. The Pukekohe yards on Wednesday were fully occupied. We quote :—Ox beef, 17s to 20s ; cow, 16s to 18s ; grown steers, £4 10s to £5 ss.
