RAHOTU.

(Our own Correspondent.) On Wednesday eveni'- the Rahotu Public Hall was filled to overflowing on the occasion of the first appearance of the " Mountain Minstrels." The " Minstrels" kept the audience in good humor for about two hours, and made a successful dekwt. After the concert a gift auction was/held, and the proceeds—which go towards defraying expenses of erection of new side-rooms to the Hall—were"considerably argumented.

The Hall was then cleared for dancing, which was kept up with spirit till early morning hours. For the dancing Mr Kuowles (piano) provided the music, assisted by Msssrs Markham (violin), Brame (flute), and Webb (cornet). This music was voted by the dancers to be simply splendid. Everyone seemed to enjoy himself thoroughly, and we are sure the Hall authorities are indebted to those gentlemen who so kindly worked up the concert, and to those who gave articles for the gift auction, and otherwise contributed towards the succesa of the whole entertainment. The additions to the Hall should soon be aa accomplished fact, as the timber is already on the ground.

As Mr Mcllannigan, County Road overseer, was clearing fern and rubbish away from under the Okahu Bridge the other day he came across two perfectly white rats, which, however, escaped. Mr H. Brown was in Rahotu on Wednesday, making himself acqainted with the district, in view of his candidature at the forthcoming; elections.
