AUDITOR-GENERAL.
The position of Controller and Au-ditor-General left vacant by the lamented death of the late Mr J. E. Fitzgerald is to be filled by appointing Mr J. K. Warburton, Public Trustee. Although not agreeing with Mr Warburton's administration of the native estate on this coast, there is no gainsaying the fact tbat he is a most capable official, and one whom no Ministry nor any one else will bend from what he considers his path of duty. He has shown by his administration of the Trust Office that he is not to bo moved by fear or favor, and his appointment to such an important post as Auditor-General will, we feel satisfied, result in benefit to the colony. We have no doubt that he will re-organise the audit service and put it on a more satisfactory footing than it has been on for some time past, as when he and the late auditor crossed swords over the Trust Office accounts he came off a long way thereby showing that he is possessed of the necessary ability requisite for such an important position.
