IRISH LAND BILL.
London, July 25
The House of Commons rose at 4.40 in the morning having finished the committee stage of the Irish Land Bill. Mr Tim Healey congratulated Mr Gerald Balfour on his skill, patience, and industry in dealing with the measure.
DROUGHT IN ENGLAND. London, July 25. The drought is being severely felt in Southern England. The pastures are burnt up and food for cattle is scarce.
The hay crop is almost a failure and the yield of the corn crops will be reduced.
Sofia, July 25.
Five conspirators will be tried in September on a charge of murdering Stambuloff. One hundred and thirty witnesses have to be called.
Capetown, July 25.
It is reported that Major-General Carrington will not again enter Matappo Hills, but will build forts with a view to surround the rebels. The latter easily made their escape, though they showed signs of a desire to remain and fight. The struggle at Laing's Laager lasted five hours, the rebels coming within five yards of the defences.
