PARLIAMENT.
Mr McGuire was to a>-ii tbe Goveniment, If it is a fact that, the Registrars of E'ectors have :e.-ived instructions to proceed with thepiinting of tbe electoral rolls of the col .ay ; aud, if so, what is the object of doing so, seeing that the boundaries have to be readjusted before the general election ? PATEA AND OPAKU UNIVERSITY RESERVES. Mr McGuire asked the Government whether they will this session introduce a Bill to provide for vesting in trustees the University reserve situated in the Patea and Opaku Survey Districts, containing 9615 acres, for the purpose of promoting higher education in the Provincial district of Tarauaki? He wished to point out that' the reserve in question was set apart in 1874 under the New Zealand University Act for the purpose of promoting higher education in the provincial District of Tarauaki, but had not as yet been utilised for the special .purpose for which it was set apart. With the increase of population there was also an increase in the demand in that district for higher and technical education. He therefore trusted that the Government would introduce a Bill this session in order to carry into effect the 80th section of the New Zealand University Act, as far as that section concerns the reserve in question, and vest the reserve for the purpose of higher and technical education in a thoroughly representative Board of Trustees within the provincial district. The matter had already caused considerable agitation in the provincial district, and, and in order to allay any doubts in the minds of the people, he would be glad to see steps taken by the Government in the directian indicated by his question. Mr Hall-Jones said the question was now under consideration of the Government.
