Land Board.

The Land Board met on Monday. Present: The Commissioner (Mr Strauchon), Messrs Heslop, Stock and Roy. acquiring freehold. The Board sanctioned the following applications for freehold: J. Duffy, Section 3, Block 14, Opunake; W. Cameron, Section 86, Block 4, Waimate; A. Grace, Section 95, Block 10, Kaupokonui; J. Campion, Section 8, Block 8, Hawera; G. and F. Tindle, Section 63, Block 11, Opunake; M* B. Grainger, Section 75, Block 11, Opunake (p.l. lands). MORTGAGES. The Commissioner reported that ha had endorsed consent to six mortgages. LEASE IN PERPETUITY. R. Malcolm applied to convert the tenure of p.l. Section 1, Block 8, Opunake, to lease in perpetuity. It was reported that the selector was at present non-resident, although the timber for building is on the ground. —lt was decided that the applicant be allowed to convert the tenure, providing all conditions of occupation are fulfilled, and that as personal residence is at once necessary, he be allowed three months in which to reside. a - GORSE NUISANCE. Mr F. Bluck, Clerk to the Waitara Town Board, drew attention to the extent of the gorse nuisance on Crown lands in the Waitara township, and asked if the land could not be offered at a more reasonable rent than is fixed by the Land Act, 1892. —The writer is to be informed that the Board is bound by the Act. OPUNAKE. Mary M. Fowler was allowed a lease of Sections 2,8, to 8, 10, 11 and 12, Block 27, town of Opunake, for seven years, on the terms under which the land was formerly offered at auction. RECREATION RESERVES. Mr Fleming applied for the recreation reserve, Section 3, Block 12, Cape, to be gazetted, and this and Section 59, Block 12, Cape, to be invested in thi trust os.—The Board failed to see the necessity for two reserves for recreation of the areas, as shown in the survey plan. ranger’s REPORT. The report of the Ranger upon inspection of 48 holdings showed that the area inspected was 9950 acres. The requirements are: 908 acres in grass and additional value of £4222. The area actually cultivated is 4627 acres, valued at £8898; other improvements, buildings, fencing, &0., valued at £2268. Twenty-seven selectors are resident, and 14 non-resident. Three are deficient in improvements.—The report was approved, and the defaulters will be notified.—News.
