Football.
Mr Warden, Secretary of the Tavanaki Rugby Union, received a wire from the Mauawatu Union as follows : —" Imposible to get team away ; nine men backed out."
Tbe Star says the local union have just cause to take exception to the manner in which they have been treated by the Manawatu players. Last year the same thing occurred, much to the inconvenience of Taranaki footballers. The Taranaki Union have gone to large expense in advertising, and generally working towards making the match successful, and to thus receive such short notice, with no better reason than that given, is not at all creditable on the part of the southern players.
