OAONUI.

(Our own Correspondent.) A meeting of the School Committee was held on Tuesday evening last, when there were present Messrs Garie (chairman), Harrison, and Langton. The usual minutes were read and adopted.—An application was received from the Dancing Committee, asking for the use of the school for dances. The letter was signed by Messrs Pepperill, Wills, and Luxton. Messrs R. and 0. Pepperill and R. Macfie attended as a deputation in support of the application. It was resolved on the motion of Mr Harrison, seconded by Mr Langton, That a deputation of the Dance Committee having waited upon the committee, and satisfactory explanations and arrangements having been made as to the use of the school for dancing, the resolution standing in the names of Messrs Millar and Langton, passed at last meeting, be rescinded.—Carried. Mr Langton then moved, Mr Harrison seconded, That the school be again granted to the School Committee; the 10s in hand to be held as security against loss or damage to furniture. — Carried.—The teacher's monthly report was read and discussed.—The teacher is to be asked to insert in the " cause of absence column " any reasons which may be forwarded to him either verbally or written as to nonattendance of pupils.—The meeting adjourned. Now that the much vexed question regarding the dancing in the school is amicably settled satisfactorily to both sides, the usual dances will be again held, the next taking place on Friday evening next, the 3rd inst. These assemblies are largely patronised by people from both Rahotu and Opunake.
