Taranaki Education Reserves.

Wellington, June 22. ’ A deputation consisting of Messrs Boy (Mayor of Now Plymouth), Monkhouse (Chairman Stratford Comity Council), Bewley (Chairman New Plymouth County Council), Heslop (Chairman Hawera County Council), Piggofc (member of Clifton Council), and Peat (Councillor of Pat.ca .Biding), introduced by Mr McGuire, waited on the Minister of Education this morning with reference to the 10,000 acre endowment set apart tor higher education in the Taranaki provincial district.

After considerable conversation, Hon Mr Walker promised that no interference whatever would take place in reference to the reserve, ancTas for himself ho would not divert it from the purpose for which it was intended ; if he could see a way to bring in legislation in mdor to invest the endowment in Trustees so as to ensure its proper control, he would do so, though he could not give any definite promises. He repeated the assurance, however, that the endowment should not be divorced.
