Parihaka Road Board.
Monday, June 15th 1896
The Finance Committee, consisting of Messrs M. Fleming (chairman), McHardy, Wells, and Wright, appointed by the Board, met at 11 a.m., and after an exhaustive investigation prepared the following report to be submitted to the Board.
" Your finance committee after going carefully into the accounts of the Board find that after paying all liabilities up to last meeting there is a credit balance of £B9 18s 7d (inclusive of £BO 2s 6d unpaid rates). We would recommend the Board to open a special loan, interest account with the Bank, and that all special loan rates be pajd into this account. We would also recommend that £l5O to the credit of the Warea East Road be paid into the Treasury as an unexpended balance of loan." The. following is the statement on which the report is based : ASSETS.
ORDINARY MEETING. Present: Messrs M. Fleming (chairman), McHardy, Wells, Morrow, and Dew. Minutes of previous meeting read confirmed. Mr McHardy reported his action in dealing with tenders for Waiteika and Narau Roads. Resolved, That Mr McHardy's action in accepting tenders for draiuing ,on Waiteika Ro;id and for culvert on Namu Road be confirmed. (FlemingMorrow.) CORRESPONDENCE. From Receiver of Land Revenue, notifying that there was a sum of £ll9 15s available on account of land fund. From Jas. McKenzie, drawing attention to the extraordinary traffic caused by a bullock team on the Upper Waiteika Road, by which it was made dangerous for ordinary traffic. He asked the Board to take steps under the Public Works Act, 1894, to remedy the nuisance. From T. McGloin drawing attention to the bad state of a culvert on the Manibi Road, and offering to contribute a day and a half's labor provided the Board would pay a man for a day and a half.
Mr Morrow did not think the Board should do anything as it was cattle traffic to Mr Bleakley's property which caused the damage. Resolved, That request be complied with. (Wells-Morrow.) Mr A. Chapman waited on the Board and requested that a culvert be put in on the Kahui Road to give him access to his residence.
Resolved, That he be offered half cost for doing work.
Mr Dann waited on the Board requesting that about four chains of ditching be done on the Ngariki Road. Mr Dann subsequently put in an offer to do the drain at 15s per chain, which was accepted.
Resolved, That the Clerk be empowered to use money in hand to issue summonses at once against all those in arrears with rates.
