CO-OPERATIVE DAIRYING.
When the idea of starting dairying in this district on the co-operative principle was mooted, we advised dairymen to form an association of a number of factories or creameries for the purpose, as we were coavinced, that it had mauy advantages to recommend it, and was more likely to lead to a issue than forming individual factories into companies. As, however, the movement on a broad basis collapsed, principally thrcugh one of the- promoters turning traitor on his co-workers, it is not necessary to recapitulate the points in favor of such a scheme. We notice, according to a report in a recent issue of the Inglewood Record, that a meeting of de'egates has been held at Midhirst. These delegates represented factories at Midhirst, Moa, Maketawa, Mangorei, Lepperton, Ngaire, Pembroke Road, and Stratford. The object of the meeting of delegates was to form an Association to embrace all these factories. In their case thpy started as individual companies, and now they have decided on all going in under one head; to be named the " Tarauaki CoOperative Dairy Companies Association." We have no doubt but that this combined action on their part will tend to place the industry in that district on a much more satisfactory and permanent footing, and at the same time we very much regret that a simi-
lar line of policy was not adopted here, before the individual expense of each company was incurred, as the one expense iu registration and other ways would have covered all.
