Haweea, June 5
At Eltham, on 2nd inst., we had a gcod entry. Bidding for young cattle and store steers was fairly keen. At Hawera, on 4th inst., more than double the quantity of cattle advertised came forward. Biddiog throughout for steers and young cattle was good, resulting in most lines being disposed of.
We quote—At Eltham—steers, £8 2s 6d to £8 10s, 80s to 35s ; 18-month steers, 38s to 45s ; weauers, 20s to 28s ; store cows, £2 to £2 7s ; springers, £4 to £5. At Hawera—Calves, 12s to 15s; weaners, 21s to 28s ; yearlings, 81s to 37s ; 18-month steers, 40s to 47s ; 2year steers, 50s to 55s ; 2|-year steers, £8 8s to £8 8s ; fat steers, £5 23 6d ; 18-month heifers, 32s 6d to 87s 6d ; store cows, 42s to 47s ; forward condition cows, £2 15s to £3 5s ; cows and calves, £3 to £3 7s 6d. Sheep— Sborn lambs, 4s 8d; 2 and 4-tooth wethers, 8s 9d ; empty ewes, 6s 9d ; full-mouth ewes in lamb, ss.
Egmont Farmers' Union (Limited) Report. Haweba, June 5. We held a clearing sale on behalf of Messrs Walker Bros, in our.Okaiawa yards on Friday, the 29th inst. The day being fine, there was a large attendance and everything passed off very well, satisfactory pricps being realised. We quote—ls to 2-year steers, £2 9s; l£ to 2-year heifers, £2 4s; fat and forward cows. £8 Is ; cows with calves at foot, £2 9s 6d; horses (draughts), £lO 15s to £l6 17s 6d ; yearlings, to 4-year hacks, £8 12s 6d to £9 ss.
The monthly Horse Fair was held in our Horse Bazaar, on Saturday, the 80th ult, and although plenty of horses came forward the bulk were of poor quality. Bidding was brisker than it has been of late, particularly for anything good, so that a fair number changed hands. We quote—Draughts, £lO 10s to £ls 15s; harness horses, £9 to £ll 10a ; hacks, £4 2s 6d to £9 5s ; packers, 7s 6d to £3 ss.
At Manaia sale on Wednesday, the Brd inst.,-fully the advertised number of cattle came forward, chiefly 2 and 8-year old steers, tbe oondition and quality of which was good. The attendance was limited and bidding slow, little business being done at the hammer, but a few lines were placed before leaving the yards. We quote—2 to 8-year steers, £8 15s 6d to £4 10s; dairy cows, £8 10s to £6 5s ; heifers, in calf, £2 7s 6d to £2 18a 6d.
Messrs F. R. Jackson and Co.'s Stock Report. Johnsonville, June 4. The. bullocks entered for the day's sale were all fair quality though generally light weights. The bidding was not so keen as last sale, consequently beef fell in value slightly. Sheep wore well competed for aud prices improved. Pigs—only a few came forward and they were bett-r worth. Cattle—Best bullocks, £6 17s 6d to £1 5s ; others, £0 5s to £6 15s ; cows, £4; ox beef 16s, and cows 14s the 1001 b. Sheep—Wethers, 9s 4d to lis 3d ; ewes, 8s 8d to 9s. Pigs—Small baconers, 26s ; porkers, 14s Gd.
Wanganui, Juue" 4.
We had very few sheep entered at Waverley. Cattle were in usual numbers. We sold most of the cattle, but the sheep, consisting mainly of old ewes, were difficult to quit. At Wanganui we had a fair muster of both cattle and sheep. The cattle were all sold with the exception of the line of cows. Of the sheep, all sound mouth animals found ready purchasers at quotations, but inferior lines were very hard to place. However, we cleared the yards with the exception of two small lines of fat ewes. Pigs were in usual numbers, but very dull of sale. We quote : Cattle. —At Waverley—Weaners, 23s to 26s 6d ; cows, £2 15 to £3 Is ; steers, £2 10s to £2 12s ; forward bullocks, £4 18s to £4 19s; fat cows, £4 £4 12s 6d ; heifers, £2 5s to £2 10s milkers, £2 13s to £4 12s. At Wanganui—Yearlings, 20s to 80s ; heifers, £2 7s; milk cows, £8 7s 6d to £4 18s.
Sheep—At Waverley—Old ewes in lamb, 4s Id. At Wanganui—Ewes in lamb, 4s to 5s 3d ; superior, 9s 6d ; empty ewes, 4s 6J to ss; wethers, 8s Id to 8s 9d ; lambs, 6s Id ; fat ewes Bs. - -.
Pigs—Large baconers, 23s to 81s ; smaller, 17s to 225; pork pigs, lis to 14s 9d ; others, 4s to 6s 9d.
Messrs Hunter and Nolan's Report. Auckland, June 3. Cattle.—Top sorts of fat stock advanced in valu6 Is per 1001 b. Ox beef sold from 19s to £1 1001 b ; cow 18s. Steers ranged from £5 15s to £8 2s 6d; cows, £4 15s to £6 2s Gd ; yearlings, 27 1 3 Gd to 355, 2-year steers, 42s Gd to 52s Gd ; grown steers, £3 15s to £2 7s Gd ; heifers, 82s Gd to 57s Gd. Sheep.—At Newmarket demand was brisk. Fat wethers sold at from 8s 9d to 15s Gd ; ewes, 8s Gd to 15s 3d ; lambs, Gs 9d to 12s ; store ewes, 4s Gd to 63 each. Pigs.--Porkers sold from 18s to 225. Mr Newton King's Weekly Report. New Plymouth, June 5. At Eahotu on Wednesday there was a small muster, but demand was active and good prices were realised. Calves made 150 to 20s; 15-month steers, 34s Gd ; 18 to 20-months heifers, 41a to 48s : fat cows, £4.
