OPUNAKE V. AKE AKE.

The above match was played at Rahotu on Saturday on Mr W. 0. Phillips’ property. Opunake kicked off, and Cowling (Ake Ake) getting the ball, made a good run, but was stopped by Bruce, who in turn ran out on the Ake Ake line. The play getting near the goal J. Hickey crossed the line, but the try was disallowed, the referee holding the ball was dead five yards from the line. * In the second spell Ake Ake, with the advantage of the wind, forced their opponents, with Hill, Langman, and Cowling in evidence. The latter following up well a kick from Hill scored a try, but Langman failed to convert.

Mr A. Gilhooley acted as referee, and Messrs Swiunertoa and Carter as line umpires. The visitors were entertained at Mr O’Donnell’s hotel, where a pleasant evening was spent.

The following will represent Opunake in the junior cup match against Okaiawa on Saturday next: Full back, W. Humphries ; three-quarters, A. Guy, N. McLeod, F. Carrington; five-eighths, F. All the players are requested to attend practice on Wednesday afternoon at 3 o’clock. /

The cup match between Normanby and Waimate was played at Manaia on Friday, and resulted in a win for Waimate by 18 points to 3.
