Footballers' Ball.

The above ball, under the auspices of the Opunake Football Club, and which has been looked forward to by them with interest, came off last night in the Town Hall. Nearly all the day members of the Club and others had been busy procuring ferns and decorating the hall. . Mr F. Des Forges was again to the fore in hanging Chinese lanterns and flags, and also had placed at the end of the hall his large mirror, while at the other end was hung the Club’s banner, and a little distance off was the football, encircled in colored papers, suspended from the ceiling. The whole formed a very pleasing effect, which reflected on the taste of the decorators. They had also gone to some trouble in making the floor comfortable for dancers, and were rewarded for their efforts by it being in good order. Owing to the threatening weather a number were prevented from putting in an appearance, which thus confined the attendance to about fifty couples, giving them more scope and ease to enjoy themselves. On the stage were erected two tables, which were literally loaded with an abundance of substantial eatables, as well as plenty of dainties. The management of the tables was very good, and the committee of ladies in charge—Mrs Clarke, and the Misses Treweek, Hickey, Lynham, and Guy —left nothing undone to attend to the wants of those present. The two tables were well arranged, and were a great convience, enabling double the number of persons to sit down, and thus avoiding the long delay at supper time. The secretary of. the Ball Committee (Mr Dobson) and the Club Secretary (Mr Clarke), assisted by members of the club, also took a great interest in working the affair up, which contributed to the marked social success of the evening. The music was supplied by Messrs Good and Harrison, the dancers, as usual, speaking in praiseworthy terms of the pleasant music and capital time.

Mr Des Forges carried out the duties of M.C. in his well-known urbane manner.

The sura of between £ll and £l2 was taken at the door.
