The Australian cricketers began the opening match of their tour at Sheffield Park to-day, when they were opposed by an eleven chosen by Lord Sheffield. There was a large attendance, including the Prince of Wales, to whom H. Trott, captain of the visitors, was presented. The wicket was not of the best, being rather lively. Trott won the toss and decided to bat. When the stumps were drawn for the day, the position of the game was : . Australia — First innings.
