THE MATABELE RISING.

Capetown, April 9. * Four machiue guns from the flag ship George are being sent to Bnluwayo. Maurice Gifford has been wounded.

Lord Gifford has again inflicted a defeat on the Matabele, with a loss of only two killed and three wounded. The natives swarmed all round, and attempted to rush the Laager. They lost at least a hundred men. Capetown, April 12. f The Matabele lost 850 in Lord Gifford's attack.

Williams, who is manager of De Beer's mine at Kimbeley, has been committed for • trial on a charge of conveying arms into the Transvaal. Capetown, April 12.

The whole of the Matabele, including tribes which took no part in the late war, have risen in revolt, and it is considered at Buluwayo that a force of fully 1500 strong is required to repress them. A force has left Fort Salisbury, including 200 natives and 200 Sou, danese, to relieve Gwelo, which is threatened.

Rhodes has recovered, and accompanies the troops. News has been received that Brand's column was attacked and driven into a corner by the Matabele on the Tuli Road. There were casualties. Doctor Macfarlane with 220 men and guus have gone to relieve them. The natives are said to possess ample grain.

EGYPTIAN TROUBLES. Cairo, April 10

A man named O'Neill who had been sentenced to imprisonment on a charge of assaulting and robbing a constable confessed to his having with thirteen others participated in the crime and gave a graphic description as to how the act was committed.
