Mr Newton King's Weekly Report.

At Stratford, on Tuesday, owing to the heavy downpour of rain in the morning, very few of the cattle entered came forward, only about 800 being yardedj and the attendance for similar reasons being small. Bidding was quiet and many lines were passed at the hammer, but after the sale the majority were quitted at about ruling rates. Big steers and good strong 12 to 18-months stuff were in most demand, weaners being especially hard to quit. I quote— Calves, 5s 6d to 12s ; yearlings, 80s to 81s 6d; 15-month steers. 86s 6d ; 2$ do., £2 6s 6d to £2 14s 6d , 8 to 3| do., £8 7s 6d ; fat cows, £3 10s 6d ; springing heifers, £3 Bs.

Menus F. R. Jackson and Co.'s. Stock Report. . ' Wanganui, April 1. We had a fair yard for yesterday's sale. Bidding was fairly good for cattle, and sheep sold at last sale's rates. We did not, however, place the Napier wethers. Pigs were well competed for and sold at improved values. We quote : Cattle—Fat cows, £3 lis to £Bl9s; steers, £2 ss; bullocks, £2 16s 6d to £8 10s; cows and calves, £2 6s; heifers, £1 15s; weaners, 10s to 16s 6d. - Sheep—Fat ewes, 7s Id to 8s 8d ; store wethers, 6s 6d to 7s 3d ; ewes, 4s 6d to 6s; old ewes, Is 4d to 2s 6d ; lambs, 4s ; culls, Is 3d. Pigs—-Baconers, £1 5s to £1 10s 6d; porkers, 16s to 20s; small pigs, 6s to 7s.

Poultry—Fowls, Is 6d to 2s 6d; ducks, 2s to ss; turkeys, 9s to 12s the couple.

Bfmont Farmers' Union (Limited) Report. Hawera, April 2. Our yards were well filled with cattle last Friday, though the-entries "were mostly of young stock. The rain that had fallen the previous few days had a tendency to liven the sale up a little, so that most of the lines entered changed hands at the ham- , mer. We quote :—Forward bullocks, £4 to £4 12s 6d; store cows, £2 to £2 10s ; 18-month to 2-year steers, £2 to £2 12s; 9 to 18-montb steers, £1 10s to £ll7s 6d ; springers, £4 to £4 10s; weaners, lis to 21s ; 18-months to 2£year heifers, £2 to £2 10s. At the horse fair on Saturday, the entries were smaller than usual and quality of the horses in most cases not very enticing. Bidding was slow for other than good kinds of horses. We quote :—Draughts, £l2 to £l6; harness horses, £7 to £l2; hacks, £5 to £lO.

We held our fortnightly sale in the Glover Eoad Yards, Hawera, on Wednesday, Ist inst. The muster of cattle was not quite so large as was advertised, but still it included several lines without reserve. The attendance at the sale was very good and bidding was brisker than it had been for some time past, so that with very few exceptions everything changed hands at a slight advance in prices. The close damp weather of the past few days has had a splendid effect upon grass and abundance of feed is promised for autumn and winter, so that stock sales should now be brighter. We quote : —Fat bullocks (light weights), £slss to £5 18s ; forward bullocks, £4 to £4 10s; 2to 24-year steers, £3 to £3 8s 6d; 18 month to 2-year steers, £2 7s 6d to £2 15s; yearlings and weaners, 15s to 255; springers, £8 5s to £6 2s 6d.

Sheep—None sold. During the week we have had several enquiries for stock and have succeeded in placing several lines privately.
