General Kitchener has applied to the War Office for forty additional .British officers for the Soudan Expedition. Cairo, March 24. Russia concurs with France in claiming that unanimity among the Powers is necessary before the Egyptian Reserve Fund can be diverted to to pay the cost of the Soudan expedition. Germany explains that she assented to the use of the fund in this direction at the wish of Italy. Rome, March 24. Marquis Rudini, Premier, speaking * in the Chamber of Deputies, declared the British alliance would enhance Italy’s position in Egypt. A vote of confidence in the Ministry was carried, and a proposal that troops in Abyssinia be recalled was unanimously rejected. Cairo, March 24. General Kitchener’s force consists of 20,000, including three battalions of British soldiers and 7000 Bedouins. Ahasch, which was recently occupied by Egyptian troops, is being fortified. London, March 25. It is believed orders have been issued for the mobilisation of some of the troops in India for the purpose of being conveyed to Suakim, and in the event of necessity arising, matched to Berber, on the Nile. Rome, March 25. The Dervishes lost forty men in the first attack on the Zabderat defiles, near Kassala, but their loss was heavier in the two subsequent attacks. A force of 3000 Dervishes now threatens to attack the Pass. It is reported Menelek will demand from Italy an indemnity of a million sterling for a declaration of peace.
