The Transvaal Difficulty.
London, March 8. Ic has transpired that Jameson’s troops yielded on condition that their lives were spared, not unconditionally, as the Boers allege. The Times says Kruger’s conditions for granting the franchise to the Uitlanders are that a treaty of commerce shall be substituted for a convention admitting suzerainty, Great Britain’s inclusion of Swaziland in the Transvaal, and concession of pre-emptive rights over Kosie in Delagoa Bay. The Times thinks these demands are merely made to appease the Boerg and really far less will be accepted. Capetown, March 3. Herr Hoffmeyer proclaims his severance with Sir C. Rhodes, the late Premier. He asserts that Rhodes falsely stated the duties of the Premiert alleges that he was fully aware of Jameson’s intention to cross Transvaal border, and took no steps to prevent it. Hoffmeyer further alleges that though the directors of the Chartered Company were warned of what he intended, Rhodes kept the start of the expedition secret for 36 hours, and during that time Rhodes evaded his colleagues. He added that Rhodes did not assist Sir H. Robinson, Governor of the Cape, in preventing the expedition, nor did he censure the plot. London, March 4.
It is said that the Commander of the Boers, in writing, agreed to save the lives of Dr Jameson and his party conditionally, on the assurance being given that the expenses which, the Boers were subjected to in stopping the expedition will be paid. President Kruger, it is said, by cancelling the terms of the surrender, deluded Robinson to persuade the Uitianders to yield iu order to save the life of Dr Jameson.
