The Christchurch Election.

The result of the election for the Christchurch seat, rendered vacant by the Hon W. P. Beeves as AgentGeneral, resulted as was anticipated in the Opposition candidate being returned, the Taylor’s splitting the Liberal Party’s vote. There was very little excitement during the day. The poll was declared at 7 p.m. The re■ult Being as follows : C. E. Lewis ... 4,714 T. E. Taylor ... 4,802 R. M. Taylor ... 3,196 Majority for Lewis, 412.
