Town Board.
The ordinary monthly meeting of the above Board was held on Monday, February 10th. Present: Messrs Knowles, Stewart and O’Brien. In the absence of the chairman Mr O’Brien was voted to the chair. Minutes of previous meeting were read and confirmed. CORRESPONDENCE. From Commissioner of Crown Lands, asking the grounds for passing a resolution re diversion ofEducacation Reserve. From Mr Kennedy, requesting transfer of property on rate roll to Mr W. Middleton. —Agreed to. Resolved, That a committee consisting of Messrs Rogers, Stewart and O’Brien be appointed to draw up a report on the matter of taking over the Main South Road running through the township. (O’Brien-Knowles.) Mr Brennan applied for the hall for the purpose of holding a fancy fair from Tuesday, March 24th, to Saturday, March 28th; and on Easter Monday night for a social in connection with the fair.—Granted. Mr Stewart called the attention of the Board to the urgent need for something being done to King Street and moved that tenders be called for forming and metalling between Napier Street and Layard Street; also that drains on Layard Street be cleaned out and water tables in Gisborne Terrace be attended to. Seconded by Mr Knowles and carried. The following accounts were passed for payment:—Returning Officer, £4 17s 6d; J. S. Kuobbs, 6s ; Opunake Times, 19s ; D. Murphy, £9 14s 7d; Ranby, £7 11s 5d ; C. Goosey, £1 8s ; Pettigrew, Bs. DOMAIN BOARD. Same members present. Mr J. Stewart was elected chairman for remainder of term. Minutes of previous meeting read and confirmed. The Board has a credit balance at bank of £l7 12s lOd. Resolved, That Mr J. Stewart, as chairman, sign cheques with the secretary, and that the bank be notified to that effect. (O’Brien-Knowles.) An account from J. S. Knobbs for 16s 6d was passed for payment.
