Egmont Farmers’ Union (Limited) Report. Hawera, February 6. We had the yards crowded with cattle at Stratford on Friday and also a large attendance. The only cattle in demand were 2 to 2£-year store steers. We quote :—Fat cows, £3 10s to £3 19s ; store cows and heifers, £2 to £2 IGs 6d ; 2 to steers, £3 2s to £3 7s; cows and calves, £2 7s 6d to £8 5s ; 18-month. to 2-year steers, £2 3s 6d to £2 9s; weaners, 10s to 15s ; yearlings mixed, £1 5s 6d to £1 16s. At the Glover Road yards, Hawera, there was a fair muster of stock, but unfortunately there was a scarcity of buyers, and bidding throughout was dragging and very little stock changed hands. We quote : —Fat bullocks (light weights), £5 Is to £5 17s 6d; fat cows and heifers, £3 to £3 13s; 2 to heifers, £2 8s to £2 17s 6d ; yearlings, £1 3s to £1 Bs. Sheep. —Shorn hoggets, 7s. Mr Newton King’s Weekly Report. Cattle.—The Stratford yards had only a small muster on Tuesday. No doubt the continuous rain on the Sunday and Monday previous prevented mustering. Bidding showed no improvement, rates remaining low. Calves made 10s to 18s; yearlings, 25s to 80s ; cows and calves, £2 10s to £3 ; cows, empty, £2 5s to £2 15s ; 18-month to 2-year heifers, £2 2s to £2 8s ; fat cows, £3 4s 6d to £3 16s 6d.

Mr Kenyon’s clearing sale on Wednesday was startling. When cows at the back end of the season sell up to £8 to £8 12s 6d it shows there is pleuty of faith in the dairying industry. Cows made from £4 to £8 12s 6d, more than half making considerably over £5 ; calves, 10s 6d ; horses £6 10s to £ls.

There was a fair muster at Waiwakaiho on Thursday, and prices remained about the same as of late. Some nice steers from Mr T. Giddy were much admired, and elicited keen competition. Calves made 7s to 17s Gd ; yearlings, to 33s ; cows, in milk, £3 to £4 ; springing heifers, £3 12s Gd; 12-month steers, 40s to 465; 2| to 3-year good empty cows, £2 5s to £2 14s ; fat do, £3 16s 6d ; bulls, £2 10s ; lambs (butchers), 8s ; store ewes, Is Gd to ss.

Messrs Hunter and Nolan’s Report. Cattle. —An average number has been brought forward, and there has prevailed a steady demand for all descriptions at, in most instances, a slight advance in value.
