School Picnic.

Last Wednesday was quite a gala day for the young folks', ou the occasion of the school picnic, which was held on Mr Morrison's grounds, on the banks of the Nama River. The day was beautifully fine, and the spot chosen for the purpose could not be bettered. A. bend in the river formed a little peninsula, which has been planted with ornamental shelter trees, making a very pleasant place for picnicking purposes. There was a unanimous muster' of the school children, and also a good attendance of adults. The provision department, which was in charge of Mr Eason and Mrs Manson, assisted by a number of ladies and the members of the committee, withstood all onslaughts from the young folks, there being an abundance of everything. After dinner had been served, races and other amusements were organised and kept up with vigor until the bell rang for tea. During the afternoon Mr J. Feaver visited the ground with his camera, and took a couple of pictures of the group, copies of which will be obtainable. Gifts were distributed to the infants, and toys of all descriptions were provided as prizes for boys' and girls' races. Before dispersing three hearty cheers were given by the children to Mr Morrison for his kindness in giving his grounds for the picnic, and then all wended their way homewards, thoroughly well pleased with their day's outing, the picnic being generally voted one of the best yet held.

In the evening a dance was organised and held in the Foresters' Hall, which was kept up with spirit for several hours.
