Messrs Nolan, Tonks and Co.'s Stock Report. At Opunake on 21st inst., the quantity of stock advertised came forward, all of which were disposed of with the exception of one pen. At Kakaramea, on 23rd, we had a fair muster, but owing to harvesting operations the attendance of buyers was small. We quote : At Opunake—Calves, 16s to 20s ; yearlings, 32s to 37s ; 2-year steers, £8; cows, £2 10s to £2 15s; fresh cows, £8 8s to £3 10s. . At Kakaramea—Superior weaners, 295; yearlings, 34s to 87s ; 18-month mixed, £2 to £2 4s ; 2-year steers, £2 lis to £2 13s; cows, £2 14s to £2 17s ; weaners, 24s to 27s ; fresh cows, £3 2s 6d. Egmont Farmers' Union (Limited) Report. Hawera, January 16. The cattle yarded at Stratford, last Friday were of good quality, but the market was dull, though we managed to quit a number of the lines at previous rates. We quote : —Fat cows (light weights), £3 8s to £3 lis; 2to 2i-year steers, £3 to £3 4s; empty cows and heifers, £2 to £2 18s ; yearling heifers, £1 8s to £ll2s ; weaners, mixed, 10s to 17s 6d. Our sale in the Glover road yards, Hawera, was held on Wednesday, the 22nd inst, and though there was a good muster of stock, very few persons attended, so that but little business was done. We quote : —Fat bullocks, £6 ; fat cows (light weights), £3 2s to £3 16s 6d ; 2 to heifers, £2 3s to £2 10s ; 2 to 2£-year steers, £3 2s to £3 6s ; yearlings, mixed, £1 9s to £1 16s 9d. Mr Newton King's Weekly Report. Cattle—At Stratford, on Tuesday, the yards were fairly filled, the attendance was moderate, and bidding was quiet throughout. Weaner calves were very dull, and all of this class were passed in. Big steers met with more enquiry, and most lines sold, though prices were not equal to those ruling a few sales back. Yearlings made £1 4s to £1 9s ; 12 to 18-month mixed, £1 10s to £1 12s 6d ; 2-year steers, £2 5s ; 2£ to 8-year do., £8 5s to £8 8s 6d ; 3 to do., £4 4s ; 8£ to 4-year do., £4lßs to £ss; empty heifers, £3 7s ; springing do., £3 10s ; store cows, £2 5s to £2 18s 6d; fresh do., £2 15s to £2 16s; cows and calves, £8 to £8 Bs. At Waiwakaiho, on Thursday, there was a moderate muster of stock, with rather small attendance. Bidding was spiritless, and prices low. Weaners were very dull, and were mostly unsold. Calves made 8s 6d to 14s; yearlbgs, £1 5s 6d to £1 9s ; 15 to 18-month steers, £1 17s 6d; heifers, in calf, £2 8s . springers, £3 4s to £3 18s ; 2-year steers, £2 5s ; store cows, £1 2s 6d to £2 15s. Messrs Hunter and Nolan's Report. Horses—At the Durham yards bidslow for the usual number of lots. We quote :—Heavy ' draughts, from £lO 5s to'£l7; medium draught, £9 to £l2 17s 6d ; hacks, £4 5s to £l3 10s. Cattle the market has lacked vitality, but there has been little or no noteworthy alteration in value. The Newmarket yards were fairly well supplied on Tuesday. Steady bidding prevailed, but there was no advance in prices. We quote—Beef, at from 17s to 19s 1001 b. Sheep were in ample number at Newmarket, on Tuesday, and sold at values in favor of the purchaser. Store ewes from Is 9d to 4s 6d ; fat ewes, 4s to 7s 3d ; store wethers, 4 9d to 9s ; fat wethers, 7s 6d to 9s.
Buckland and Son's Report. Auckland, January 24. At Kemuera, on Thursday, dairy cattle were slightly better worth. Store cattle were dull of sale. Fat calves, in short supply, sold freely at an advance over late markets. Fat cattle, in full number, were lower in value about la Id ; wethers brought from 7s 6d to 10s ; ewes, 5s to 6s 9d ; store wethers, 6s 6d to 6s 9d ; ewes, 2s 2d to ss. Lambs, in usual supply, were also at lower values. Prices ranged from 2s 9d to 9s each. Pigs, iu limited supply, kept their late values. Weaners were at 5s and 6s ; porkers, 15s to £1 12s each. New. Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency, Limited. London, January 15. Wool.—Since the close of last sales scoured merino super and greasy and scoured merino medium and inferior are |d to Id per lb higher. Greasy merino lambs medium and inferior and greasy crossbred lambs are £d per lb higher. Slips merino at par to per lb higher. Other descriptions unchanged. The total quantity catalogued to date is 62,000 bales. The total quantity withdrawn to date is 3500 bales. Tallow —Medium and inferior mutton tallow is in demand, but fine is neglected. Frozen Meats—Wellington mutton is worth per lb. Butter—Market firm. Fine qualities 108 s to 110 s per cwt.
