Fire at Te Aroha.
A fire at To Aroba on Friday destroyed the properties occupied by J. Woods, butcher ; F. Tonge, draper; R. Brennau, shoemaker ; Club Hotel; Parks, boavdingbouse ; Calders, fruit sbop; Waters, draper; Bygrove, fruiterer ; F. Batten, watchmaker ; and Barber, bootmaker. All were burned to tbe ground. Tbe New Zealand Insurance Company are the heaviest losers, their risk being estimated at about £2OOO. ' Herbert Cox, son of Mr A. Cox, of Shaftesbury, sustained very severe injuries while getting through the windows. He was badly cut about the arms by broken glass, and was also severely burned. Cox was to have left in tbe evening for Auckland to be married. Morrison, au invalid boarder, had a narrow escape. He was unable to move himself, and was carried out at tbe last minute. Tbe fire started in tbe botel at about half-past 8 o'clock.
