After luncheon the New Plymouth Match was continued. Here again some tall shooting was indulged in, Thorpe (Wairoa) going within two of the possible, starting with a “ magpie ” and finishing up with sis successive “ bull’s-eyes.” Atkinson (Haweraj and Lusk (Rahotu) put on the grand scores of 32 each at the 500yds range. At this stage Atkinson (31-82) and Thorpe (30-33) were even pegging. ' with 63—while the next were Okey (N.P.) and Lusk (Rahotu) with 57, Chicken 56, Spurdle 56, Nelson and Strachan 55, and McFarlaue, Adams, and Davis 54. But the 600yds, the final range, told a different tale, the two leaders completely bursting up, Atkinson only making 18 and Thorpe 20. Gibson and Hicks Hawera, and Lewis, Manaia, 57. The next taken was the Inglewood Match, embracing only the long ranges, 500 and 600 yards, 10 shots at each. The feature of this match was the consistent shooting of Baker, of Inglewood, who, after putting on a good round score of 43 at the first range, placed a possible to his credit at 600 yards, getting ten bull-eyes in succession, and secured him the first prize. Davis (Wairoa) made a consistent 81, while Phillips (Rahotu) secured the same number after making only 37 at the shorter range.
