We had a moderate entry of cattle at Stratford, on Friday, the 3rd inst., together with a small attendance, which may be accounted for by the recent holidays. Bidding was slow throughout, so that not a great deal of business was done. We quote: 18-month steers, £2 Is to £2 15s ; yearlings, £1 2s to £1 lls ; springers, £8 to £8 10s ; store cows, £1 15s to £8 5s ; 18-month heifers, £2 ; weaners, 13s to £1 0s 6d; bulls, £1 to £3 10s. Sheep—Fat ewes, 8s 6d. Our sale was held in the Glover Road Yards, Hawera, was held on Wednesday, the Bth inst., though the yards were well supplied with cattle there was really no demand, the market being very slack, and we do not anticipate much improvement until harvesting and shearing operations are ended. Messrs F. R. Jackson and Co.’s Stock Report. At our sale in the St. Hill-street yards a large number of sheep were penned. Prices on the whole were irrrgular. The chief feature was a draught of Napier wethers, but the competition for them was not brisk. We sold all out at the quotations. Cattle were in small numbers. Pigs were in good supply and were better worth. We quote ; • Cattle—Fat cows, £3 13s to £3 16s; yearlings, 88s; calves, 3s to 15s; milch cows, £3 to £3 17s 6d ; heifers, £2 12s 6d to £2 14s. At Waiwakaiho, on Thursday, owing, no doubt, to the harvest operations, the yards were only moderately filled and the attendance was small. Young stock were in good demand and and most of that class sold at the hammer at satisfactory prices, weaners making best values. One of two pens of 2 to 2J-year steers came forward, but competition was not keen, only one pen selling at the hammer, though all of them were placed afterwards.
