Education Board.

The ordinary meeting of the Education Board was held on Wednesday. Present: Miss Heywood, Messrs Bauchope (chairman), Hill, Faull, Ambury, Mackay, Allsworth, Adlam and Wade.

Drynan, £235 (alternate £268); Geo Hall, £235. Mangaere; Elliot and King, £228 (accepted); J. Irvine, £229 ; Geo Hall, £285. Tongaporutu : F. Brabant, £l9O (accepted); T. S. Drynan, £295 ; Geo Hall, £3OO. Huiroa, Elliot and King, £240 (accepted); Geo Hall, £275. Midhurst chimney : E. Hooker, £7 5s (accepted); W. Lovett, £7 10s. Rahotu addition : W. Christie and Co, £l4O (accepted); J. A. Lusk, £169 8s ; Geo Hall, £165. The tender for Huiroa was accepted subject to the condition that the site foe the school is approved by the Chairman of the Board. The question of ventilation at the Opunake School was referred to the Architect to attend to. A resolution from the Stratford County Conncil, objecting to the diversion of the higher educational reserve near Patea to any other purpose than the fostering of higher education (technical and otherwise) in the Taranaki district, was adopted, with a slight amendment in the direction of forwarding the resolution to the Minister of Education as well as the Minister of Lands. It was also decided to forward a copy of the resolution to the High School Board, with a request that it joins in the protest. A committee, consisting of Messrs Wade, Mackay arid the Chairman, was appointed to consider the propriety of the Board availing itself of " The Manual and Technical Elementary Instruction Act, 1895," to report to the Board.—Herald.
