Amateur Athletic Meeting.

The sports of the Australasian Amateur Athletic Championship meetting commenced at Christchurch, on Thursday, with the 100 yards. Hempton was scratched, and Moir (Victoria) given a bye.

First Heat—Cartwright 1 ; Reeves, 2.‘ Time, 10 4-sthsecs. Hayward was too late to start. Second Heat— Patrick, 1 ; Robinson, 2 ; Campbell (Queensland), 3, Time, 10 4-sthsec. Moir also ran his bye in the same time. Final—Cartright, 1; Robinson 2; Patrick, 3. Time, 10 2-sth secs. Won by half a yard. Mile Flat—Bennett (Dunedin), 1 ; Clark (Canterbury), 2; D. Wood (Christchurch), 3. Bennett ran magnificently, and spread-eagled the field, winning by 20 yards in the splendid time, 4min 28 3-sthsecs. Clark only missed the standard by syds. Ten started.

Half-mile Bicycle—Kerr (Sydney), 1 ; Jones (Christchurch), 2. Six started. Won by four yards. Time, Imin 9 4-sth secs. Five-mile Bicycle Austral Association Championship—Kerr (Sydney) 1 ; Jones, 2. Time, 13min 25 4-sth sec. Won by nearly a length. High Jump—Doyle (Victoria), sft G4in, 1 ; Brown (Canterbury), sft s|in. Bailey and Gormley failed at l|in. 120 Yards Hurdles—Martin, 1 ; Moir, 2 ; Roberts, 8. Won by a few inches. Time, 16 2-stb sec. Three-mile Walk —Creamer (Auckland) won as he liked from Goodwin (New South Wales), Barrett (Victoria), 3. Time, 22min 51 2-sth sec, Australasian record. Throwing the Hammer Martin (Dunedin), 104 ft Sin, 1 ; Brown (Canterbury), 101 ft lin, 2. 10-mile Bicycle Championship— Jones (Canterbury), 1 ; Kerr (N.S.W.), 2; Petersen (Napier), 3. The New Zealander won by six inches. Time, 26min 36sec. The Pole Jump was won by Kingsley with 10ft, Gormley (Victoria) being second with Oft lin. Quarter Flat—Low (Dunedin), 1 ; Campbell (Queensland), 2; Reeves (Canterbury), 3. Several others ran, including Wingrove and Townsley (Victoria), and Cartwright and Masterton (N.S.W.)x Low took the lead half way and won by four yards. Time, 51 3-Bth sec. All the visitors, except Cartwright in the 100 yards and Doyle in the jump, were disappointing, and could not look at the New Zealand champions.
