The Opunake Times. TUESDAY, DECEMBER 24, 1895. CHRISTMAS.
The festive season of Christmas has come round once more, bringing with it pleasant memories to the great majority. Although as age grows on us we do not look forward to its advent with the same feverish and expectant anxiety which characterised its approach in earlier years, yet there a v e associations connected with it which cause a thrill of joy to permeate the breasts of most when it arrives. It is a time of festivity, and one at which a greater spirit of amity takes possession of Christian mankind generally. People are more inclined lo bury the unpleasant associations of by-gone days and enter iuto cordial relations with erstwhile enemies, and in many other ways show that the teachings of Him, whose natal day it is, bear fruit. To the young, whose feelings are approached by something more tangible than thoughts, it is fondly looked forward to as a time of feasting, and every movement of their elders in the culinary art is sedulously watched, and when the day arrives for the onslaught on the cupboard there is no gainsaying the juvenile good will'. Santa Claus retains his juvenility, and will, be round as usual attending to the stockings and other receptacles which children in all good faith hang out for the reception of his gifts. His list of children's ages and sizes is fully prepared, so as to prevent any five-year-olds from playing jokes on him by hanging out their mother's stockings instead of their own. It is our hope that it will prove a time of joy to voung and old, and we wish all our readers A Merry CintisTiAiAS.
