Waimate Road Board.
The ordinary monthly meeting was held on Wednesday, there being present: Messrs McCarthy, (chairman). Budge, Blennerhasselt, Stevenson, Pearce, and Borrie. NATIVE KATES Thomas McGloin wrote pointing out that the Taranaki and Hawera Councils and the Parihaka Eoad Board had agreed to provide funds for the prosecution of a test case against the Public Trustee tor the recovery of the native rates under the Eating Act, 1895, and requesting that the Waimate Eoad Board would bear a share. (Budge—Stevenson.) THE GRADER. The clerk of the Hawera county wrote stating that as soon as the grader is disengaged from Ohaugai road it will be available for the use of the Waimate Eoad Board. PIHAJIA POUND. A. E. Baylis wrote stating that he had paid 12s Cd to the district fund, proceeds of a beast sold. Mr Pearce said the beast sold brought £3. There should be no pound at Pihama. The clerk in reply to a question, said there had never been anv money paid to the credit of the Board although he understood that the pound had been established for about eight years. ° Several members expressed surprise that no statements had been rendered to the Board. Eesolved, That the pouudkeeper be requested to render an account of all beasts sold since the constitution of the pound. ROWAN ROAD. ' E; Wasley wrote asking permission to sink a drain between section 32 and Mr Milne’s section.—Granted. George Taylor wrote drawing attention to the state of the above road between the contract no in progress and his gate. He said he had two accidents lately, and suggested that the work should be done, for which he would be willing to advance the money. The Chairman said that he had authorised the work. WATINO ROAD, _ H. M. Holmes presented a petition signed by Charles Fischer, John Machray, C. H. Hurst, A. Saunders. J. S. Toslaud, John McHardy, F. Bead, D,
M. Holmes and John McGregor, requested that a loan of £SOO for the purpose of forming and metalling the Watino Road South, extending from the South Road to Section 14 (Hurst’s) and to declare Sections 1 to 7, 0 to 11, 15, 19 to 21, Block XIII; Sections 14 17 to 20, Block XIY a Special Rating Area, and to pledge all Land Funds for the purpose of paying interest on loan. Mr Stevenson opposed the proposal. Referred to the Loans Committee, to consist of Messrs McCarthy, Budge, and Borrie to report to the next meeting of the Board upon the fairness and necessity for the loan. OPUNAKE-STRATFORD ROAD. John Morton wrote stating that there was no work being done on the road west of tha Auroa road, and adding that he and several others interested were willing to pay two years’ rates in advance so as to provide funds. —Moneys not yet available. FOREST RESERVE. M. O’Sullivan wrote stating that the Land Board had agreed to the felling of the Auroa road but he now wished tha Board to fell the side road between his section and the Forest Reserve.— No funds.—Star.
