We had our full advertised entry of cattle (which was a large one) come forward for sale at the Glover road yards, Hawera, on Wednesday, the 27th inst. Wool—The sales opened scarcely at the level of last sale. Faulty has declined $d per lb. Attendance of both Home and Foreign buyers is good. Competition by both Home and Foreign buyers is fairly active. The total quantity available, including wool held over from last series is 190,000 bales, 20,000 bales of which have been forwarded to the manufacturing districts direct. The New Zealand wools included in these sales are almost entirely scoured and fellmongers’ lots, and therefore no guide as to values for the present season’s clips, first of which cannot be offered till January or February sales in London. Mr Newton King’s Weekly Report. Cattle—There was a good muster of stock at Stratford on Tuesday, but the day was terrible, raining, blowing and cold as in midwinter. Bidding was slow, excepting for big steers, and these were in good demand. A grand pen of 2-year steers from Mr Sinclair as usual topped the market at £4 10s. A great number were sold after the auction, but several pens of 2-year old steers were sent home. On Wednesday 1 held a clearing sale at Mangorei on account of Mr Weigall. The cows were not a firstclass lot, the majority being in milk and the others being backward. Bidding was quiet, and prices were on the low side. Cows in milk made £2 5s to £6. Land—This week I have to report the sale of Mr H. J. Richmond’s improved farm at Toko (208 acres) to Mr Fred Bayly and Mr Powell’s (700 acres) to Mr J. Mackay. Messrs Nolan, Tonks and Co.’s Stock Report.
