A general meeting of the Society was held in the Borough Chambers on Saturday afternoon. There were about twenty members present:—Mr Davidson, President, occupied the chair. RESULT OF THE SHOW. Mr Hirst, acting-secretary, read a statement as to the results of the late show- This showed that the principal receipts were: —Gates, £l2B 2s ; subscriptions, £121; special prizes and donations, £SB ; entries, £129 19s Id; the total receipts being £515 Is 7d. The main items, of expenditure were : —Prizes, £235 ; advertising and printing, £47 9s 6d ; commission £25 ; timber and wages, £3l ; luncheons, £l2s 10s ; judges expenses, say, £ls ; contingencies, say, £10; leaving a balance of £lO4 15s 6d. To this balance is to be added, after allowing a large margin, the following items : —Special prizes, estimated to produce, £4O; entries, estimated to produce £3O ; subscriptions, estimated to produce £35 ; making a total profit of £2OO 15s 6d. § The result was generally considered eminently satisfactory. PROTESTS. The following protests were received in connection with the hte show, the ground of objection being that the animals were not thoroughbred, and therefore not eligible to compete: —M. J. Goodson, protesting against M. Roberts' Lady Isabel and Skylark ; M. J. Goodson, against L. S. Barraclough's Guard; M.J. Goodson against M. F. Baird's ch f by Puriri and M. Roberts' f by Vanguard ; R. Hicks against Handguard, J. A. Wilkie's br f by Puriri, Wheel of Fortune, and M. Roberts' i by Vanguard. Mr Baird said that as regards his filly it was hard to find what was eligible for the Stud Book. He had written to the compiler of that work on the matter, but had received no reply as yet. Mr Goodson said he had arranged that whichever won the prize would allow it to be kept by the society. Mr Davidson said he did not know if Handguard was thoroughbred or not, and he had his doubts as to whether she was; but he left the matter in the society's hands. It was decided that the protests be held over till next meeting to enable owners to obtain particulars of pedigrees. confirmed. On the motion of Messrs Stone and Alexander, the action of the Ground Committee in leasing the ground was confirmed. JUDGES. In answer to Mr Stone, Mr Hirst said that judges were not given catalogues until after the judging was finished. AUTUMN SHOW. The President brought up the question of holding an Autumn show. He thought that, if possible, they should hold one say a week after the Palmerston show. Mr Riddiford moved that a committee consisting of Messrs Foreman, Sutton, Washer, Stott, Robbins, and the mover be appointed to go into the qnestion and report as early as possible. Seconded by Mr Baird, and carried. ACCOUNTS. Several accounts in connection with the late show were passed for payment. UNPAID SUBSCRIPTIONS. Mr Lambie asked if unpaid subscriptions could not be sued for ? The President said they would have to take a legal opinion on the matter. Star.
