Anglican Church Bazaar.
On Wednesday, when the above bazaar was to have opened, there was almost incessant rain all day and up till late at night, so that the opening proceedings had to be adjourned till yesterday. The weather again looked threatening): :hi> early morning but cleared up, a ■ ' a beautiful day was experienced. A good number attended in the afternoon, and in the evening the hall was packed. On entering the hfill along up the left hand side was No 1 stall, in charge of Mrs G. W. Rogers, assisted by Miss Scott (Wellington), Miss Rutherford, Miss Prosser, Miss Tidd, Mrs O'Brien, Miss Carter and Miss B. Dudley. On the opposite side of the hall was No. 2 stall, in charge of MrsE. C. Middleton.assistad by Mrs Fowler, Mrs Twomey, Mrs Des Forges, Miss McHardy, Mrs Clarke, and Miss Guy. Both of these stalls were loaded with choice goods, both useful and ornamental.
On No 1 stall there was a very handsome mantle drape, hand-painted on brown satin, which was very much admired. Fancy chair, upholstered in plush, plush footstool, plush fender stool, handsomely worked with beads, embroidered and crazy work, cushions in all colors and patterns, very handsome three leaved table with deep plush drape beautifully worked in silk, numerous bracket drapes very handsomely worked, besides a large variety of dolls and other fancy goods. In connection with this stall was a Toy Stall, in charge of the Misses Feaver, who did a great trade with the younger members of the visitors. On No. 2 Stall there was also a profusion of choice articles, including a very pretty round table with handsome drape, easy chair upholstered in crimson plush, plush footstools, embroidered smoking caps, oil paiutings, a number of handsome cushions in plush and satin, embroidered in silk and beadwork, wall pockets, bracket drape 3 in plush, velvet aud satin, tray cloth with knitted fringe, lamp stands, dolls, and other fancy goods too numerous to mention. Along the lower end of the hall another stall loaded with ladies' and children's wearing apparel was laid out, which was under the charge of Mrs C. S. Stronge, who did a thriving busiuess amongst the rnaterfamilias. Then came the flower stalls with very choice cut blooms, in charge of Misses Treweek and Goldie, and their success in this department was evidence 1 by the gay appearauce of the gentlemen's button holes. Across the top of the hall the refreshment stall, in charge of Mrs E. J. Dudley, Mrs Humphries, and Mrs Aitken, was laid out- In the centre of this was a very handsome four decked bride's cake, beautifully ornamented and iced. There was also a great profusion of other choice eatables and it is needless to say that the ladies in charge of this department had their energies well taxed. For those of a speculative character there is a guessing competition in the shape of a bottle tilled with beans, for which two handsome prizes are offered. In the eveuiug the String Band contributed three selections, Master Murray Fowler played a pianoforte selection, and. Miss Des Forges contributed a vocal item. The bazaar will be open again this evening, and to-morrow afternoon the gift auction will take place, when there will be a large miscellaneous lot of lines offered, and being without reserve people will get them at their own prices. Iu the evening the prizes will be drawn for. The takings last night amounted to £3O 9s.
