Waimate Road Board.

The above Board met on Wednesday. Present: Messrs McCarthy (chair), Pearce, Borrie, and Stevenson. KIRI ROAD. From T, Powell, asking for an extension of time to complete his contract on this road, owing to bad weather.—An extension for four weeks was granted. (Stevensou-Poarce.) MANGAWHERO ROAD. From R. Gibson, complaining of a broken-down culvert on this road. PALMER ROAD. From A. Coxhead, offering to assist a surfaceman if told off to do a few days’ necessary work on this road. — No funds. WATINO ROAD. From W. H. Eyes, re damage being done to native lands by the drainage water on this road having broken the bank.—Foreman to attend to matter complained of. OEO ROAD LOAN. From A. E. Young, asking for work to be gone on with without delay.— Resolved, That tenders be called for at once. MANGAWHERO ROAD. From T. A. Bridge, asking for money due, about £35, to be spent opposite Section 9, and not diverted, as he had heard proposed.—Engineer to report on the advisability of forming and metalling this portion.—Resolved, That tenders be called for work up to the amount available, to close at next meeting. WATINO ROAD LOAN, From Secretary of Treasury, enclosing objections received from Messrs Holmes and Lowry, in regard to the loan on this road.—A special order adopting this loan was carried. MANGAWHERO ROAD. From A. H. Perrott, complaining of useless work being done on this road in draining.—Foreman reported that the work done was necessary, in order to prepare the road for the contracts in hand.—Foreman’s action approved of. OEO ROAD LOAN. Special order adopting this loan was carried, OPUNAKE-STEATFORD ROAD. Mr A. J. Rawstron waited on the Board, asking for about six chains to be done on this road, and offering to form the road up to his gate if the Board w r ould metal it. AUROA ROAD LOAN. A petition was presented by Messrs Morton and Rawstron, from nine ratepayers, requesting the Board not to devote the d.p. money of any section not abutting on the road, to pay interest on the loan, as it was understood at the meeting that the land revenue only of those sections abutting on the Auroa Road should be so devoted, and stating that a clerical error had been made by the office in so including outside land revenue.—The error was found by reference to the minutes, and it was decided to take steps to correct it. COMMITTEE OF LOANS. Mr Budge moved his notice of motion re a committee of three being appointed to enquire into applications for loans, which was carried. MANAIA ROAD, Messrs Frethey and Swadling waited on the Board with a petition for raising a loan of £4OO for metalling the Manaia Road from the Eltham Road to the Stratford County boundary. Moved and carried, That a committee consisting of Messrs McCarthy, Budge and Borrie be appointed to report on the application for this loan. (Stevenson-McCarthy.) Mr Swadling also asked for the Board to spend a small sum in clearing and filling about seven chains on the Upper Manaia Road, and offering to do one third of the work.—Foreman to report. SKEET ROAD. A petition was presented by Mr G. J. Mudford from a number of ratepayers, asking for the £lO voted for this road last year to be expended without delay. Also, that Mr Davidson had offered to cart the metal on to the road for 2s a yard. Mr Pearce said that a sum of £4O had been taken from the Skeet Road and spent on the Manaia Road, and that it should be refunded. Resolved, That the foreman report on the petition, and Mr Davidson’s offer of carting metal be accepted. MAIN SOUTH ROAD. Clerk to bo instructed to write to Council, asking that d p. thirds (£3lB 18s 8d) to credit of Main South Road, be handed to the Board, and all other d.p. moneys due to this part of the district. FOREMAN’S REPORT. The report was read and considered. The usual accounts were passed for payment.—Witness.
